6 Hite And It's Bridge
Southern Utah Summer 2018After leaving Bears Ears on Route 95, there is a choice of fifty-mile-long roads. One leads North to Hite and loops around the eastern limits of Lake Powell; the other goes to Hall’s Ferry, where a car ferry can take 22 cars in a load across to the town of Bullfrog. Don’t ask.
Hite was once a thriving community build around boating and fishing, but a dramatically lowered lake level stranded the boat ramp high and dry. East of the old town site, crossing the Colorado River, is the Hite’s Crossing bridge.
The scenery is rich in deep canyons, towering formations of sandstone, and the river. After the road loops around the lake, it delivers you to the Hite Overlook. What a view!!!
This place is a long way from anywhere (I saw a few cows and no people in fifty miles of driving.) but a treat beyond measure for the photographer.
