5 Capitol Reef National Park
Central Utah Summer 2015

Capitol Reef is an old favorite of mine, and I looked forward to revisiting it with the drones. More of Capitol Reef.

There are three key features for visitors: the main East-West highway, Scenic Byway 12; the river ford, where one drives across the river to reach North Cathedral Valley; and a branch off Route 12 going South into the heart of the park, known as The Scenic road.

When I arrived the river ford was already closed because of high water from the Hurricane Bianca storms; the only alternative, Cathedral Wash road on the East, was deeply gullied and no fun to drive.

Having no choice, I drove thirty miles over bumps and through gullies to reach the upper corner of the park. The things we do for pictures! (for those fantastic videos, see the Cathedral Valley gallery)

On my second day, I took the Scenic Road pictures and videos shown in numbers 9 through 12 here. The next day, that entire road was closed with a big sign: ‘Road closed. Storm damage.’

So much for that; I went on to Bryce Canyon…
