Antares Dancer

The 76 feet Antares Dancer can accommodate10 - 14 divers in air-conditioned comfort. Divers fly to Caracas or Isla Margarita,then take the local flights on Aerotuy Airlines to Los Roques (airline connectionsmay require a hotel overnight). One week cruises are $1395 to $1595 plus $45 portfees per person, Saturday to Saturday.

During 1996 -97 I sent lots of divers to Antares when it was managed by a wonderfulFrench family. It was a terrific product, and I was saddened to lose it when thefamily eventually left.

I hoped that it would come back under new management, and was delighted when my friend,Peter Hughes took it over. This is great news for adventurous divers!

The diving is highly varied. Some sites such as Piedra de La Guasa and PiedraAhogada, have giant groupers, schooling jacks, and thousands of snappers. Other sitessuch as La Buceadora offer massive caverns to explore.

AtCayo Sal visibility is often over 100 feet with a sheer wall to 185 feet, then acrossa broad ledge the next drop-off to 2,000 feet. Here is another place for big animals,which also offers colorful sponges, marine tropical fish species and sheer wall diving.These are exactly the kind of attractions that lured some of us to Belize, the Caymansand Bonaire twenty years ago. . .

Another site with an impressive wall, Dos Mosquitos, has converging currents withrich growth on the wall and (depending upon the currents) more big animals.
