Moab is on the eastern side of Utah, very near the Colorado border. Both Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park are very close to Moab, and both the Colorado and Green Rivers carve vast canyons within easy reach via short drives.
As a result, this is a magnificent region for all kinds of outdoor sports—hiking, boating, bicycling, motorcycling and above all, drone flying!
On my first trip in 2014, I was a new drone pilot with a Phantom drone. The cameras worked beautifully, but the small, light drone could be carried away by wind. I had to be really cautious when flying it. It also didn’t handle higher altitudes well.
Two years later, the Inspire Drones had come out and I could put a heavier, more wind-resistant drone above some favorite spots, and at much higher mountain altitudes. Oowah Lake is at 8,500 feet, for example, and the Inspires performed very well there. Those videos with the Inspire are in the 2016 gallery, and I am really pleased with the results.
